Haruka Matsumoto is a pianist and educator from Osaka, Japan, currently based in Warsaw, Poland.
After graduating from Toho Girls’ High School of Music and earning her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Toho Gakuen School of Music, she moved to Europe in 2018 to study at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She is presently under the guidance of Professors Koji Shimoda and Anna Jastrzębska-Quinn.
Haruka has studied with Hitomi Kanba, Ayami Iida, Hiroe Arai, and Yoshine Numazawa, and has participated in masterclasses with distinguished pianists including Takako Takahashi, Pascal Devoyon, Mikhail Voskresensky, and Bronisława Kawalla. In 2014, she was selected by audition to join the masterclass of Elisso Virsaladze at the Kirishima International Music Festival, performing in the festival’s special concert.
Competition Highlights
Haruka has been recognized in numerous competitions in Japan and abroad since childhood, earning top prizes such as:
- 1st Prize – All Japan Piano Competition (2019)
- 1st Prize & Grand Prix – Danubia Talents International Competition, Hungary (2024)
- 2nd Prize – Paderewski International Competition, Poland (2020)
- Silver Medal – Chopin International Piano Competition in ASIA, Concerto Division (2017)
- Additional top prizes at the Takarazuka Vega Piano Competition, Mainichi Children’s Piano Competition, and others
- She has also represented the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music at the Chopin Piano Tournament in Poland (2019, 2021).
Performance Career
Since her debut recital in 2016, presented by the Suita Cultural Foundation, Haruka has performed widely in Japan and Poland at venues including Sumida Triphony Hall, Kawai Umeda, Miki Gakki Kaiseikan, and KAWAI Polska.
In 2023, she signed with PRESTO Concert Agency and now appears regularly at the Fryderyk Concert Hall in Warsaw’s Old Town, giving dozens of Chopin recitals annually.
Teaching
Alongside her active performance schedule, Haruka is dedicated to teaching students in both Japan and Poland.
Her lessons focus not only on technical skill but also on deepening musical interpretation and expression. Under her guidance, students have achieved success in competitions such as the Chopin International Piano Competition in ASIA and the Japan Classical Music Competition.
